Written by Roddy Lee

On one summer's evening last year Roddy The Rooster, Cassie The Carpetsnake and Joe The Jolly Jumbuck were in the beautiful Australian bush roasting marshmallows around the campfire.

Roddy asked his friends, "What's the best thing about camping in the bush?"

Cassie says she loved swimming on hot sunny days in the cool river near the campsite.

Joe thought the best thing about camping in the bush was seeing all the animals in their natural environment.

But Roddy had other thoughts.

With a rumble in his tummy he said, "No, it's the food! The fabulous feasts! The gourmet delights of classic cuisine!"

And with that he gobbled down the delicious melting marshmallow.

Cassie & Joe ate their marshmallows and they all agreed that they were absolutely scrumptious.

Cassie called for a campfire song. And Joe started singing...

I'm the Purple Bunyip who lives upon the mountain top
Lives upon the mountain top
Lives upon the mountain top
I'm the Purple Bunyip who lives upon the mountain top
Singing my favourite tune

I'm the Purple Bunyip who lives upon the mountain top
Cooking in my favourite pot
And for my dinner I have got
A slip slop stew of withered weeds and soursop
And me without my spoon

I'm the Purple Bunyip who lives upon the mountain top
And I guess I wouldn't swap
Anything for what you've got
I love it here living on the mountain top
But I've lost my spoon.

And after the rousing campfire song Roddy, Cassie and Joe settled down for a long night's sleep under the stars shining in the sky.

After all, Roddy had to get up every morning very early to welcome in the new day.

Goodnight Roddy. Goodnight Cassie. Goodnight Joe.

Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite!
