BANG!

CRASH!

It was still dark - very early one morning - when Roddy The Rooster and his farmyard friends were awoken by a BANG! and a CRASH!

Peering out of his barn Roddy saw a big wooden crate being unloaded from the back of a truck. The truck had two big crates on it but only one was unloaded. The driver hopped back in the cabin of the truck and was driving off as the farmer came out of his house.

Roddy's barn was across the farmyard. All he could see was the farmer look at the big wooden crate then run to his car and drive off.

What was going on?

Roddy called the other farm animals together for an emergency meeting.

Cassie The Carpetsnake volunteered to have a closer look at the mysterious crate.

She slid across the yard and circled the big wooden crate and returned to the barn.

"It breathes!" she exclaimed, "Whatever is in that big wooden crate, it's breathing!!"

Joe The Jolly Jumbuck piped up, "I know the farmer was getting a new tractor, but tractors don't breathe!"

Roddy decided that if another farmyard animal was joining them that they better make friends with it.

All the animals followed Roddy the Rooster across the yard and they stood around the big wooden crate waiting.

"Maybe it's a water buffalo," said Mrs Cow.

"Or a lion or a tiger," shivered Desmond Duck.

Roddy stood at one end of the big wooden crate and yelled out, "Hello??"

WHAM!

When the dust cleared Roddy and his friends couldn't believe their eyes.

An elephant!!!

Roddy spoke up. "Hello Mr Elephant - welcome to our farm."

The elephant just grunted, "Farm?? I'm supposed to be going to the Zoo!"

Roddy The Rooster then realised that the truck driver had made a big mistake - he'd dropped off the wrong wooden crate - "The farmer's tractor must have been in the other crate on the back of the truck!"

Toot! Toot! The farmer's car was returning to the farm followed by the truck.

Roddy and his friends watched the farmer and the truck driver repair the big wooden crate and swap it for the big wooden crate on the back of the truck.

"That's better," the animals heard the farmer say, "My new tractor!"

As the truck drove off with the elephant on the back, Roddy and his friends waved goodbye to Mr Elephant who's trunk could be seen sticking out of his crate waving goodbye.
