Written by Roddy Lee

It's RODDY THE ROOSTER's Birthday!!

So CASSIE THE CARPETSNAKE and JOE THE JOLLY JUMBUCK decided to throw a surprise party for him!

"What kind of party would Roddy like?" asked Joe.

Cassie thought long and hard. "I'd say he would like a Monster Party - where everyone would dress up as ghosts and ghouls, creatures with horrible features!!"

Joe found that idea a bit scary because, as he rightly said, "If we have a Monster party we'll have to decorate the barn with paper spiders, pumpkin skulls and spray-on cobwebs!!" Even the thought made Joe shiver!

"Well then," said Cassie, "What about a Space Party where everyone can come dressed as astronauts and aliens!!

Joe thought that was just as scary. "Aliens make my knees shake!!"

"Then what kind of party do you suggest," Cassie asked Joe, "What sort of party do you think Roddy would like??

"What about a Food Party??" asked Joe, "Lots of food. Roddy loves food and so do I!!"

So it was decided - a Surprise Food Birthday Party.

Word was spread around the farmyard and all the animals were asked to bring a plate of food... and, of course, keep the party a secret from Roddy.

Well, the big day arrived and Cassie The Carpetsnake sent Roddy The Rooster down to Tumbledown Creek to get some water so she could prepare the barn for the surprise party. All the other farmyard animals pitched in with the decorations and everyone bought a plate of food.

Mrs Cow brought a cane basket full of freshly cut grass.

Mr Horse brought a saddlebag full of hay.

Mrs Possum brought a great big jar of worms that she'd spent all night catching.

"Here he comes," yelled Joe when he saw Roddy The Rooster returning from the creek with the bucket of fresh water.

"SHHH!" said Cassie. Everyone in the barn went quiet.

In a few moments the barn door swung open and in came Roddy The Rooster carrying a bucket of water.

"S U R P R I S E!!!" came the yell.

"Ahh!" Roddy The Rooster jumped in surprise. The bucket of water flew into the air and came down all over Roddy.

He stood there for a moment sopping wet, then started to laugh.

All the animals joined in.

Roddy The Rooster was delighted and he and his friends shared all the party food until everything was gone.

"This is the best birthday party!" said Roddy.

And he thanked all his friends for being there to share it with him.
