Written by Roddy Lee

The rain was tumbling down on Tumbledown Creek Farm so Roddy The Rooster and his friends were gathered inside the barn swapping stories and songs.

Cassie The Carpetsnake told the story of when she rescued a baby magpie.

Mr Wombat was listening in, enjoying himself. He had stayed over in the barn for the night and was going to leave at dawn. But, what with the rain, he had decided to stay and join in. Mr Wombat told the tale of when Old Mrs Possum's store of nuts were washed down the hill all the way to the bank beside Tumbledown Creek and down into Mr Wombat's home.

Mrs Hen laughed out loud, "That must have been funny."

The Cheeky Chicks were gathered around Roddy The Rooster. "Sing us a song, Roddy," said one of the chicks.

Roddy introduced his song, "Now I'd like to sing a song concerning a worm called Paul, a canary called Mary, a cat called Mat and a dog called Reggie. It's called Oh! What A Wonderful Life!!"

Mary The Canary sat in a tree
Looking at Paul The Worm he was to be her tea
Oh! What a wonderful life!
they were thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!

Mat The Cat looked over the wall
He saw Mary The Canary and the worm called Paul
Mat watched Mary, Mary watched Paul
But Paul was not aware at all,
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!
he was thinking:-

The sun is shining
The sky is blue
Oh! What a wonderful life!
The sun is shining
The sky is blue
Oh! What a wonderful life!

As Mat watched Mary he did not know
That Reggie The Dog was seated below
Thinking, Oh! What a wonderful life!
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!

pic Oh! What a Wonderful Life

Then Reggie The Dog saw Mat The Cat
Get ready to leap from the wall
Look out, Mary! But Mary's watching Paul
And Paul, well he wasn't aware at all,
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!

Then all of a sudden Reg barked loud,
Mat leapt in shock and Mary swung around
Mat darted off, Mary took flight,
But Paul was not aware at all,
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!
he was thinking:-
Oh! What a wonderful life!
he was thinking:-

The sun is shining
The sky is blue
Oh! What a wonderful life!
The sun is shining
The sky is blue
Oh! What a wonderful life!

The song finished and The Cheeky Chicks cheered. Mrs Hen clapped and Desmond Duck yelled for more.

Suddenly Mr Wombat butted in, "Sorry to break up a party but the sun's out. The rain's stopped."

All the animals cheered and ran out to the sunfilled barnyard.

And as Roddy The Rooster farewelled Mr Wombat and saw his friends enjoying the day he thought, "Oh! What A Wonderful Life!!"
