Written by Roddy Lee

The early morning sun shone brightly as it rose over the horizon.

And all was quiet until....

"COCKADOODLE-DOO"

"COCKADOODLE-DOO" ....again!

pic Roddy The Rooster's Christmas Mystery

It was Roddy The Rooster....

AND.... it was Christmas morning!

"B'WARK!" came his cry, "Happy Christmas Everybody!!"

Christmas morning!

In no time at all Roddy's friends were awake and excitedly unwrapping gifts left by Santa Clause.

Mrs Hen's Cheeky Chicks ripped open their colourful parcels - "New toys!" "I got a colourful ball," yelled one of the Chicks as she threw it up in the air and it came down bouncing on her brothers heads'. Boing! Boing! Boing!

Mrs Hen had a big smile on her face, "A new flower pot, oh lovely!"

Desmond Duck got a rubber ducky, "It's just what I wanted. Quack! Quack! Quack!"

Penny and Pixie Piglet had beautiful new picture books.

Mr Horse was still asleep in the corner of the barn as the other farmyard animals unwrapped their Christmas presents. Beside Mr Horse a small parcel with a red bow on it waiting to be discovered.

Joe The Jolly Jumbuck had asked Santa for a new blue hat the keep the hot sun off his face. Sure enough, when Joe arrived at Roddy The Rooster's barn this Christmas morning he was wearing his brand new big blue floppy hat.

"Happy Christmas, Cassie," he said to Cassie The Carpetsnake who was wearing her new pink boa, "You're new scarf looks great!"

"Happy Christmas, Roddy," shouted Joe as he entered the barn. But Roddy was busy. Sitting in the middle of the barn was a big bale of hay. Roddy The Rooster popped his head out of the bale, "I can't find my present. All that's here for me is this big bale of hay." Roddy was perplexed. He scratched his head, "I asked Santa for sunglasses to keep the hot sun out of my eyes."

Cassie was convinced, "They must be somewhere!" But the fact was that if they spent time looking for Roddy's present now they would be late for Christmas Breakfast.

In the barnyard of Tumbledown Creek farm Roddy The Rooster and his friends were tucking into their special Christmas Breakfast. Roddy was devouring a plate full of popcorn. "I'd hate to miss my Christmas popcorn!" he exclaimed.

Joe The Jolly Jumbuck was hoeing into his favourite drink, creamy clover fizzies - "Hmmm, my favourite!" Slurp! Slurp! Slurp!

Roddy swallowed another mouthful of delicious popcorn and looked around the table, "Where's Mr Horse?" Roddy asked.

Mr Horse was still sleeping in the corner of the barn when Roddy The Rooster, Cassie The Carpetsnake and Joe The Jolly Jumbuck came into the barn.

"Cockadoodle-doo!"

Mr Horse stirred and opened his eyes.

"Happy Christmas, Mr Horse!" shouted Roddy.

Mr Horse snorted, sniffed and smiled, "Happy Christmas to you. Did I oversleep?"

"You certainly did!" confirmed Roddy. "Christmas Breakfast has already started," butted in Cassie. "You'll miss the clover fizzies," said Joe.

Mr Horse loved Christmas Breakfast. He brushed himself down, "Oh dear! You'd better hurry back! I'll be along in a minute!"

Roddy, Cassie and Joe scooted out of the barn to return to the breakfast as Mr Horse looked down at the parcel with the red bow on it. "Hmmm, now, what's this?"

Roddy, Cassie and Joe were back at the Christmas Breakfast when Mr Horse joined the banquet - wearing sunglasses!!

When Roddy The Rooster looked up and saw Mr Horse he asked, "Hey, what's Mr Horse wearing?"

Cassie The Carpetsnake gave the obvious answer, "Sunglasses!"

"Roddy wanted a pair of those for Christmas!" said Joe The Jolly Jumbuck.

"Did you ask Santa for a pair of sunglasses, too," Roddy The Rooster asked Mr Horse.

Mr Horse looked confused, "Well, I dunno... I asked for hay."

Roddy The Rooster realised at once there had been a mistake. The hay was meant for Mr Horse and the sunglasses were really Roddy's!

"Your bale of hay is in the barn," Roddy informed Mr Horse.

Roddy was so happy! All the animals cheered, "HAPPY CHRISTMAS RODDY THE ROOSTER!!"

Roddy The Rooster laughed, "HAPPY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODY!!"
