| Written by Roddy Lee "B'WARK!!" Roddy The Rooster was standing on the roof of his barn welcoming in a brand new day when a sheet of paper blew into his face. "What's this!" ![]() Roddy read the piece of paper out aloud to himself, "Announcing the first tour of UNCLE TIM'S BUSH BAND. Featuring Uncle Tim on harmonica, Kira Kookaburra on guitar, Kenny Kangaroo on bass and Mr Wombat on drums." Roddy was excited, "Wow! I never knew Old Mr Wombat had it in him!" Roddy The Rooster excitedly scrambled from the roof to spread the news around. And soon the farmyard was abuzz because everyone loves a bush band! Saturday evening couldn't come quick enough, for that was the date on the piece of paper, "Saturday Night 8th May at Dusk". Most of Saturday 8th May was taken up with the farmyard animals preparing to welcome Uncle Tim's Bush Band. And by mid afternoon everyone was ready and waiting for the arrival of Uncle Tim The Koala and his entourage. Penny & Pixie Piglet sat at the farmyard gates alongside Desmond Duck, Cassie The Carpetsnake and Mr Horse. Mrs Cow and Joe The Jolly Jumbuck were standing on the other side of the fence to Mrs Hen and her Chicks. Roddy The Rooster was perched on top of the gate. Suddenly Kira Kookaburra came into view. She flew towards the farm as the animals rang out a cheer. "Here comes the band!" yelled Desmond Duck. "Hooray!!" screamed the Chicks. As Kira flew closer Roddy spoke out, "Hold on! There's no one following Kira. Where's the band?" Kira Kookaburra landed next to Roddy as all the animals went silent. Kira caught her breath, then warned the farm animals, "You better head inside, a storm is coming!" The farm animals were confused. "Where's Uncle Tim The Koala?" asked Roddy. "Uncle Tim The Koala!? He's asleep up in the euclypts. Why?" "Well, you were going to do a show for us tonight weren't you? You and Uncle Tim The Koala and Kenny Kangaroo and Old Mr Wombat?" Cassie The Carpetsnake piped in, "You know, The first tour of Uncle Tim's Bush Band." And Roddy pulled out the piece of paper that the wind had blown into his face earlier in the week. Kira laughed. "That's a very old poster Roddy. That was our first tour. Our last tour too! It was years ago." explained Kira. "How did you get a copy of this old poster?" she wondered. "It blew into my face when I was on the barn roof the other morning!" said Roddy in a very disappointed tone. All the farmyard animals were disappointed. And Kira could see that the little Chicks were crying, "We wanted a bush band concert!" they wailed. Penny & Pixie Piglet started to walk away, shuffling their trotters in the dirt. "Look!" said Kira, in a positive tone, "It's going to storm really soon. Why don't you all head into Roddy's barn and I'll see what I can do!" With that, Kira Kookaburra flew off. Roddy tried to look happy, "Come on everyone, there's a party starting in my barn and we're not there!" With a crack of thunder the rain started to fall and Mrs Cow, Joe The Jolly Jumbuck, Cassie The Carpetsnake, Penny & Pixie Piglet, Mrs Hen and her Chicks, Desmond Duck and Mr Horse all followed Roddy into his barn. The rain kept falling and no one was in the mood for a party. Not now! Not now Uncle Tim's Bush Band weren't playing! All the farmyard animals sat around listening to the rain on the tin roof of the barn. Suddenly there was a knock at the barn door. "Hello?" sang a call from outside. All the farmyard animals recognised the voice but it took a moment for them to react. "Hello? Hello? Hello?" sang the next three calls from outside. The barndoor swung open and there stood Uncle Tim The Koala, Kenny Kangaroo and Old Mr Wombat. Kira Kookaburra hovered above them. "Got a dry towel and an ear for a few old musicians?" asked Kira. The barnyard erupted, "Hooray!" The four bush animals came in carrying their instruments. And after a quick dry down they prepared for their performance. "We haven't played in a long, long time," explained Kira, "So excuse any mistakes. We're a bit rusty." "We were always a bit rusty," butted in Kenny Kangaroo with a laugh. All the instruments were in place as the four bush animals took their positions. Uncle Tim The Koala was the frontman for the band so he spoke to the farmyard audience, "Kira Kookaburra flew over to see me this evening and told me your story and of your disappointment. You know, it was just the other morning that I was looking through my old scrapbooks. The wind blew up a might bit and blew this old poster I had right out of my hands. It seems that old poster was "found" by Roddy here. In appreciation of finding that precious piece of personal memorabilia for me, and so as not to disappoint the little ones around here, Uncle Tim's Bush Band reforms for one special ocassion. One big gig - and that's tonight!" And with that, the band struck up the first of many great bush dancing songs which had the farmyard animals boot-scooting and barn-dancing like they hadn't before. Sure, the band was a bit rusty - a lot rusty, but it didn't matter, everyone had such a great time and it was certainly better than a party with no band at all. At the end of the evening when the rain had stopped and the band could play no more, Roddy The Rooster and his friends farewelled Uncle Tim The Koala, Kira Kookaburra, Kenny Kangaroo and Old Mr Wombat. The farmyard animals gave three big cheers for the band but then an extra special fourth cheer, bigger and louder than the first three, for Kira Kookaburra. "HIP HIP, HOORAYYYYYY!"
