Written by Roddy Lee

In was a bright sunny October morning on Tumbledown Creek Farm and Mr Horse was rolling a pumpkin through the farmyard with his long nose.

"Hmm," he thought approvingly, "This will make a perfect costume!!"

You see, today was Halloween!!

A big party had been organised for Halloween night in Roddy The Rooster's barn and Mr Horse would be performing a new song.

Roddy and all his friends had been preparing for the party for weeks, but Mr Horse had left it to the last day.

But this was not unusual for Mr Horse. He always left things until the last moment.

That night the Halloween party was in full swing. Roddy was dressed as a vampire, and, occasionally, throughout the night, he playfully scared Mrs Hen. The Cheeky Chicks got a great laugh every time he did it!

Mrs Cow was dressed as a ghost. She wore a white sheet over her head and body and had cut out two holes for her eyes. But she kept accidently tripping on the sheet because it would slip to one side and Mrs Cow found herself bumping into walls and Joe The Jolly Jumbuck.

On Joe The Jolly Jumbuck's head was a black witch's hat and he wore heavy black makeup around his eyes that had been painted on by Cassie The Carpetsnake.

Cassie wore a long red cape and she too, like Roddy, had vampire teeth protruding from her mouth.

Penny & Pixie Piglet, Desmond Duck, they'd all dressed up and were having a wonderful night except that Mr Horse had not shown.

It was quite late when Mr Horse did, eventually, arrive at the party. He wore the pumpkin on his head. Mr Horse had hollowed it out and spent a long time cutting out the face on the pumpkin. "Sorry I'm late. My costume took a little longer than I thought!"

Roddy The Rooster commented on how good his Halloween costume looked and all the animals agreed. But they had all been waiting for Mr Horse to arrive so they could hear his new song.

The news of Mr Horse's new song had been circulating the farmyard for a couple of weeks now. All the animals loved when Mr Horse had a new song so they pleaded with him to perform it as soon as he had arrived at the party.

Mr Horse cleared his throat, "Very well then, here's my new song. I've called it Monsters!" And he sang..

Monsters
Hairy scary monsters
Kooky spooky monsters
Slimy greasy squelchy squeezy
Evil weevil unbelievable
Hairy scary monsters
Hairy scary monsters

Creatures
With nasty ghastly features
Blood sucking leeches
Warted quartered and distorted
Boils lanced and things unthought of
Hairy scary monsters
Hairy scary monsters

At night
Turn out the light
Cover your eyes
Hear the distant cries
Of hairy scary monsters
Cover your ears
Look out! Oh dear!
Cover your eyes
Hear the distant cries
Of hairy scary monsters

Slimy greasy squelchy squeezy
Evil weevil unbelievable
Monsters!

As Mr Horse sang his new song his pumpkin head dress fell onto the floor, such was the exhuberance of Mr Horse's performance. But it did not matter. The song was great, and once he finished the barn erupted in applause and calls for more, more, more!!

Mr Horse sang it four more times, and by the last rendition Roddy The Rooster and all his friends had learnt the words and were singing along.

"Happy Halloween, everyone!" yelled Mr Horse as he bent down so that Mrs Cow could put the pumpkin back on his head, again.

"Happy Halloween, Mr Horse," called back Roddy The Rooster and all his friends.
