Written by Roddy Lee

The sun shone brightly over Tumbledown Creek Farm for the first time in many days.

Yes, it had been a good week or so of rain, rain, and more rain. So it was time to enjoy the sunshine again.

The farmer's big red truck was parked in the middle of the barnyard and Cassie The Carpetsnake was curled up on the back tray of the truck.

"Ahhh! There's nothing like the warmth of the morning sun!" Cassie said to herself. She was so relaxed, soaking in the golden rays, that she drifted off into a deep, deep sleep.

pic Cassie's Big Adventure

Suddenly the big red truck jolted into action, and Cassie sat bolt upright, "Hey, what's going on?"

In a moment the truck was spluttering off in first gear.

Cassie looked over the side of the truck to see Roddy The Rooster standing outside his barn. Cassie yelled, "Help!" as she frantically waved her tail at Roddy. But Roddy just smiled and waved back, watching the big red truck pass through the gate of the Tumbledown Creek Farm barnyard.

Cassie saw Mrs Cow and Mr Horse in the paddock and she yelled again, "Help!" but Mrs Cow and Mr Horse ignored her and continued enjoying the splendid luscious lucerne.

It was a bumpy ride to the front gates of Tumbledown Creek Farm. The big red truck dipped and dived through the muddy potholes that peppered the old driveway to the gates.

The big red truck swung out on to the main road and Cassie The Carpetsnake held on tightly as the truck went into top gear.

"Brrrmmmmm!"

The big red truck raced down the country road.

Cassie The Carpetsnake was not ready when the big red truck suddenly screamed to a halt.

Cassie looked over the sides and saw the truck had stopped at the train station and waiting at the platform was The Little Red Caboose.

Cassie waved to The Little Red Caboose, "Hello? Little Red Caboose? It's me, remember? Cassie The Carpetsnake - Roddy The Rooster's friend." But The Little Red Caboose didn't even look at her. It was as if she wasn't there!

Suddenly three big sacks of potatoes were thrown onto the back of the big red truck. And in the next instant, they were on the road again.

"Bip!Bip!" went the big red truck 's horn.

"Toot! Toot!" came The Little Red Caboose's reply.

Cassie The Carpetsnake hid down low - trying to escape the wind that was blowing right through her.

She thought how silly she was to fall asleep on the farmer's big red truck, but wondered why none of her friends heard her when she cried for help.

There wasn't much time to wonder.

"Screeeech!" The big red truck came to a stop again.

Cassie The Carpetsnake looked over the side to see she was at the airport. And the big red truck had pulled up next to an enormous red and white cargo plane.

Cassie looked up at the enormous red and white cargo plane, "Mr Qantas?" she called. She thought that was his name because it was written on the side of the plane. "Mr Qantas? Help me! I've accidentally fallen asleep on the back of this..."

"Thud!"

Suddenly a large engine was lowered onto the back of the truck almost squashing Cassie. "Hey," she complained. But nobody took any notice of her. It was as if she wasn't there!

In a moment the big red truck took off again.

"Bip! Bip!"

Cassie laid down low again, closed her eyes, and cried.

"Wake up, Cassie! Hey, wake up!"

Cassie was sobbing as she woke up on the back tray of the big red truck parked in the middle of the barnyard at Tumbledown Creek Farm.

"Wake up, Cassie, you've been having a bad dream." It was Roddy The Rooster, and beside him was Mrs Cow, Mr Horse and their other farmyard friends.

Cassie The Carpetsnake got the shock of her life. It had all been a dream!

Suddenly Cassie realised that the vibration going through her body was the big red truck idling - getting ready to take off. Not far off she could hear the farmer, "I'll be off now. No, I won't forget the potatoes. And that spare engine for the tractor should be at the airport this morning."

Cassie The Carpetsnake hopped off the big red truck like it was a hotplate.

Roddy The Rooster and his friends laughed, "Not going on a big adventure today, Cassie?" they asked.

"No, thanks," smiled Cassie, "I've just been on one!"
